About West Parley Parish CouncilParish Council
The Parish Council is a first tier local authority and is not to be confused with an Ecclesiastical Parish of the Anglican Church. It has limited duties but quite wide powers, should it decide to use them. In West Parley, the Parish Council is responsible for Parley Wood, Millennium Garden, Recreation Ground, Children's Playground, seats, and notice boards. Consultee with regard to Planning, Tree Preservation Orders and Rights of Way. Parish Councils are funded through the Precept (sometimes called the Parish Charge) which is collected as part of your Council Tax. Parishioners may attend the monthly meeting of the full Council. The Planning Committee meetings are open to parishioners interested in or affected by a particular planning matter which is being discussed. The Council is obliged to organise at least one Parish Meeting each year which all electors may attend and raise issues of concern. West Parley Annual Parish Meeting is held each April, usually in the Memorial Hall.
