East & South of Ferndown & West Parley Consultation
Future local planning will take the form of a number of Local Development Documents which together will form the Local Development Framework. The most important of these is the Core Strategy. Christchurch Borough Council and East Dorset District Council are working together on its production. The Core Strategy will set out the broad development strategy for the Councils over the next 20 years, and will contain the main spatial vision, objectives and planning policies to make the strategy happen. All of the other Local Development Documents within the Local Development Framework (LDF) will have to conform to it. The Core Strategy itself will have to be in conformity with the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) which is currently being produced by the South West Regional Assembly. The Core Strategy will provide the spatial expression of the Christchurch and East Dorset Community Plans. The RSS will set targets for the provision of new housing and employment for a period up to 2026, as well as setting out general policies in relation to provision of facilities, transport, and protection of natural and historic features. Issues & Options consultation 25th March - 6th May 2008 As part of the Issues Options consultation, East Dorset District Council has prepared a leaflet to seek the views of local residents on the proposed urban urban extensions to Ferndown and West Parley. This leaflet is currently being delivered to households in the area (replacing an irrelevant leaflet previously delivered) and will also be available from certain local shops in West Parley including the Co-op, Tiegla Tiles and Parley Cross Pharmacy. You can examine the full Core Strategy Issues and Options document in the following ways: 1: Copies are on display at the Council Offices and local libraries across East Dorset and Christchurch. 2: Obtaining a copy: By contacting the Council's Policy Planning Teams on : 01202 886201 (East Dorset) 01202 495017 (Christchurch) 3: On the web: the document can be viewed or downloaded from the Council's website at the link below. Dorset County Council takes action on East Dorset bus services
Following the announcement by Wilts and Dorset that they would be withdrawing bus services in East Dorset, the county council has stepped in to restore key parts of the network. The bus company is cutting services X34, X35, 134, 135, service 11 between Kinson and West Moors and reducing frequency on the X36 service between Poole and Verwood. Dorset County Council is aware that communities such as St Leonards and St Ives and the Heatherlands Estate would be left without a service. The council has therefore negotiated replacement services on a three year funding package which has also overcome the risk of contract price inflation. Councillor Col Geoffrey Brierley said: "Increasingly Dorset County Council has to intervene in local bus services to ensure people do not become isolated from everyday needs such as getting to work and the shops. "On this occasion it has proved possible to replace services without the usual price increase. I am sure the council's buying power will continue to yield similar results in future." New service 38 will operate more or less hourly between Ringwood and Ferndown alternately via Ashley Heath and St Ives. At the Ferndown end it will extend to the Heatherlands Estate. Service 37 between Poole and Verwood via Ferndown and West Moors will be increased to hourly from the two hourly frequency originally proposed. This will increase opportunities for people to make connecting journeys. The Sunday X36 service from Ferndown to Bournemouth via West Moors, Three Legged Cross, Verwood and Ringwood will be retained with small modifications. It will be renumbered 36A. Services have been timed to try to give as many connections as possible in Ferndown with service 13 Bournemouth-Ferndown Wimborne and with service X3 Bournemouth-Ringwood Salisbury in Ringwood. Changes are expected to take place from Sunday 6 January 2008. Improving the Appearance of the Parish
West Parley has come a long way from an Iron Age & Roman Hill Fort at Dudsbury to a thriving residential Parish complete with two shopping parades and what is probably one of the busiest crossroads in East Dorset with incessant traffic throughout the day. The oldest part of the village contains All Saints Church, a portion of which dates from Norman times. The southern boundary of West Parley is the River Stour; this, together with a swathe of green belt including water meadows and an abundance of trees, provides a healthy ‘breathing space’ between the densely populated northern suburbs of Bournemouth and our green and pleasant Parish. Over the years, the Crossroads area of the Parish has developed a somewhat ‘sad and neglected’ appearance due to overgrown verges and hedges, kerbside weeds and illegal flyposting and advertising. However the Parish Council together with West Parley Residents Association are now making a combined effort to change the situation. This will necessitate the co-operation of our residents and traders together with East Dorset District Council and Dorset County Council. We hope that very shortly a plan of action will be taken to ensure that marked improvements take place. Your suggestions for improvements to the area are welcome. Use the 'Contact Us' link or telephone the Parish Clerk, Mrs Sue Starmer on 01202 579035. |
